Used salon equipment such as work stations, styling chairs, shampoo chairs, sinks, hair dryers, manicurist tables and chairs, are some of the items one would need if starting from scratch. You may even want to buy and set up a used tanning booth in the back of the shop. This has become a good option for most shop owners and they can reap the rewards within a year of their investment. Customers may like the idea of getting two services in one place so to be able to get their tanning time and then their manicures or styling at the same place, is a bonus.

The items to look for are wear and tear of the chair arms, whether or not the chair rises and lowers efficiently, the look and style of the work stations. The furniture shouldn't have chips, stains or rust on the chrome. Don't be in a hurry to buy and test the equipment out first.

Buying used mirrors can be tricky. Make sure they are large enough to let the customer see themselves and haven't any damage such as peeling silver. Make sure all the mirrors match so plain, large mirrors are the best choice. They are also easier to clean.

If the shop has mismatched items, dating from the 70's to the 90's, will make it look cheap and uninviting. No one wants to sit in a worn out chair with duct tape covering the tears.

The customer has to feel comfortable and if you have attractive equipment, and a well decorated shop, the customers will return. Whether you are a new shop owner or established, buying used salon equipment is a smart investment.
